Why is the number of energy points 16?

To understand this, let's look at significance of number 16 in our life. We have heard of 16 kala (celestial degrees) when we refer to perfection, such as moon on a full moon day (poornamasi) or the complete stage of deities. Also, we say 16 (solah) aana (a currency unit formerly used in India, equal to 1⁄16 of a rupee) to denote completeness. 16 (solah) shringar denotes complete adornments recommended for Hindu brides.

In essence, number 16 represents completeness and wholeness. Interestingly, it's originating from our very self. The soul in its perfect state is full of divine qualities and powers and this is possible only when all the 16 energy points are fully charged.
